One live score for the arena, the broadcast and the data feed

The Curling Group runs the Grand Slam of Curling and Rock League. We built the platform that runs each tournament and shares every throw live.

The challenge

The leagues ran on an old, closed scoring system. It worked inside its own walls but could not share data with anything outside them. Their scores needed to reach external partners, starting with the sports data provider Alt Sports Data.

Curling is barely known in India, so we learned the sport first: how it is played, scored and timed, and how a tournament is run. Some timings, such as a stone's hog-to-hog time, are measured to a tenth of a second. The arena screens, the TV graphics and the data partners all had to show the same score and the same timer at the same moment, live, with no room for error.

What we built

  • Event creation and management: events, divisions, teams and schedules.
  • Throw-by-throw live scoring, so every match is recorded in full, not just its final score.
  • Precision timers, recorded during live play.
  • One live data source for the arena screens, TV graphics and data partners.
  • Scoring on a Stream Deck, a programmable keypad, so scorers keep their eyes on the ice.

How we worked

We built the whole platform from scratch, around how the Curling Group runs its events. The team follows the season: larger before it starts, building new features, and smaller while it runs, handling fixes and changes during live events.

Outcome

  • Two leagues run on the platform
  • Three seasons delivered
  • 10+ events, each with about 50 matches across two divisions
  • Alt Sports Data, whose odds engine we also built, is the first external consumer of the data
